A-8 Overview
The Worksheet A-8 Interface in Absolute allows for reviewing, editing, adding or deleting Worksheet A-8 Expense Adjustments. The Worksheet A-8 Interface also allows for review of all Other Operating, Non Operating and Interest Income accounts for possible offset. A-8 Summary
To access the A-8 Summary page from the Absolute Dashboard, click on the button. The A-8 Overview page shows a lead sheet view of A-8 adjustments and also allows for adding lines and editing line descriptions.
To add an operating expense adjustment: | Click the Add Operating Expense Adjustment link button at the top of the page. |
To view/edit existing adjustments: | Click the Workpaper (WP) for that adjustment in the A-8 Lines section |
To mark the A-8 Adjustments complete: | Click the Mark A-8 Adjustments Complete button in the upper right-hand corner of the A-8 Summary when all adjustments have been entered. All required Basis codes (A-Expense and B-Revenue) and A-7 references must be entered for this button to be active. In order to mark the A-8 Adjustments complete, all A-8 Other Operating, Non Operating, Interest, A-8-1 and A-8-2, as well as A-6 Reclasses must be completed first. |
A-8 Lines
The A-8 Lines section shows a lead sheet style summary of all entered A-8 Lines.
Navigating to Adjustments | If an adjustment has been entered for an A-8 line, it is shown by the value in the Workpaper (WP) column. Clicking on this Workpaper value opens the adjustment for viewing/editing |
Entering Basis and A-7 Reference: | Some adjustments require a basis code and A-7 reference which can be entered here. Missing basis codes and A-7 references are highlighted in red |
Editing an A-8 Line: |
Clicking Edit to the right of an A-8 Line puts the line into edit mode. If the line is a non-standard line, the Line Description may be edited. Edit the Adjustment Basis Code (A or B) by clicking on the select button in the Basis column. If the line requires an A-7 Reference, it may edited by clicking on the select button in the WS A-7 Ref column. Click the O button to confirm the changes or the X button to cancel. |
Deleting an A-8 Line: |
Only non-standard lines may be deleted. Click the Delete link button for a non-standard line. Click the O button to confirm the changes or the X button to cancel. |
Adding an A-8 Line
To add a new A-8 Line scroll to the bottom of the A-8 Summary page. Enter the line number in the Line field. Note that the line number must be between 33.00 and 49.99. Enter a description for the line in the Line Description field. Click the Add button when all steps have been completed.
Other & Non-Operating Adjustments
The Other Operating & Non-Operating Adjustment interface allows the treatment of expenses and revenues. To access the Other and Non-Operating Adjustment workpapers from the Dashboard, click on the buttons. These workpapers are hardcoded with Basis Codes A and B for expense/revenue offsets in Absolute.
An account must either be offset or given an explanation as to why it is not being offset to be considered complete.
Offsetting an account:
Click the offset button. This opens up the offset form. Alternatively, if the box is already checked, you can click anywhere in the form box to open it up.
Click the Type field to open the type selector. Select the desired operation.
Offset as interest - Select to flag account as being related to interest income. You will continue treatment for these accounts on a different page.
Value: |
For a Percentage, enter the percentage to adjust by. (ex. 23%). For a Fixed Amount, enter the dollar value of the adjustment operation (ex. $100). |
A-8 Line: |
Enter the A-8 line number the adjustment will be applied to. The line number may be entered by typing it in the text box, or by clicking the Select Line button and selecting the line number from the list. |
A Line: |
Enter the A-8 line number the adjustment will be offset against. The line number may be entered by typing it in the text box, or by clicking the Select Line button and selecting the line number from the list. |
To Add the Operation: | After entering a new value in the input box, click the O button to enter the changes, or click the X button to cancel. |
Not offsetting an account:
Comment: | Click the Comment button to open up the comment window. Enter a comment about the account being offset, up to 160 characters. Click the O to update the comment. You can enter a blank field to clear out the comment. Any account with a comment will show an orange filled icon. Hovering the mouse over the comment button will display any comments already added. |
Deleting adjustments with no associated account: |
It is possible that an adjustment copied over from the prior year may be offset against an account that does not exist in the current year GL. These lines have no description and a $0 balance. If you would like to get rid of these to remove clutter and/or free up any A-8 lines used by the adjustments, click the "Delete all zero balance accounts" option in the upper right-hand corner of this section. Note: If these accounts return in a future year, you will have to treat them as though they are new accounts. |

Adjustment Summary for Other Operating and Non Operating
The adjustment summary is a summary of all the cost centers being affected by the particular A-8 adjustment line, displayed at the bottom of A-8 Sections A or B. These amounts will coincide with the values that are to be reported on the cost report forms. Clicking a row will highlight the accounts contributing to that offset
A-8 Interest Income and Expense Analysis
The Worksheet A-8 Section C, Interest Related Adjustment, allows for compilation of all Interest Income accounts, Interest Expense Accounts and comparison of the two amounts to easily analyze for offset on Worksheet A-8. A-8 Operating Expense Adjustments
The A-8 Adjustment interface allows the creation of a generic A-8 Expense Adjustment.
Creating a new adjustment:
- Enter a name for the adjustment in the Name field.
- Enter a worksheet code for the adjustment in the Worksheet field. The worksheet code must be unique containing 1-3 identical letters (A-ZZZ).
- Enter the purpose of the adjustment in the Purpose field. This will be generated in the workpaper. If there are notes which need to be in the workpaper, enter them here as well.
- Enter any internal notes in the Notes field. These will not be generated in the workpaper.
- Click Create Adjustment.
Editing an existing adjustment:
The Name, Workpaper, Purpose, and Notes fields may be edited by clicking on the existing text in the field.
After entering a new value in the input box, click the O button to enter the changes, or click the X button to cancel.

Selected Accounts Preview
The Selected Accounts Preview window displays all the selected accounts chosen by a given filter.
Click the Show More link to expand the window. Click Show Less to shrink the window.
